Job Description
As a Traffic Control Technician, this role will support and uphold AWP’s core values and mission to protect our customers’ people, businesses, and time. Controls movement of vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic through work zones using hand signals with a STOP/SLOW Paddle. Reviews, comprehends, and executes temporary traffic control plans and/or standards to ensure work zones are properly installed and maintained. Coordinates and communicates with customers to ensure the safety of all workers.
Job Description:
- Set up, maintain, and remove Advance Warning Signs, Channelizing Devices, and other traffic control devices according to Federal, State, and/or Local Temporary Traffic Control Guidelines and Temporary Traffic Control Plans for simple and intermediate complexity work zones.
- Setting up cones, signs, and barricades and taking traffic control equipment down
- Using a stop/slow paddle to guide traffic, watching traffic and job site activity
- Following all safety rules taught in training
- Communicating with your crew and supervisor
- Helping keep vehicles and equipment clean and safe
- Working outside all year, in all weather
- Shifts may change based on job needs: Some nights, weekends, or emergency work may be required
- You may stand or walk 8 to 12 hours per shift
- We give you a hard hat, safety goggles, a safety vest, safety whistle, walkie talkie, and cold/hot weather gear: you bring your own steel toe safety boots that go above the ankle.
- Drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, trailers, and team members to and from work sites safely and in a timely manner. May also pull lightweight trailered equipment.
- Follow all company safety procedures and practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Certification or 2000+ verifiable hours required.
- Able to lift 40–50 pounds
- Prior experience preferred in temporary traffic control services, utility industry, or construction industry preferred.
- Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products and customer relationship management systems.
- Must be able to follow safe workplace practices.
- Valid Driver’s License void of suspension or revocation.
- Must pass pre-hire screening, including a drug test (this is a safety sensitive job)
- Stay alert around moving traffic and follow all safety rules all the time
- Treat coworkers, clients, and the public with respect
