Job Description
Commissioning Manager
This role is all about making sure new infrastructure and equipment are ready, safe, and approved for operational use.
🔑 Key Purpose
You’ll act as the main link between project teams and operational users, ensuring everything is properly commissioned, compliant, and aligned with organisational rules.
🛠️ What You’ll Do
- 🔄 Coordinate commissioning activities from design through to handover
- 🤝 Liaise between engineers, contractors, and operational teams
- 📋 Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards
- 📊 Track progress & report status to leadership
- ⚠️ Identify risks (RAIDO) and develop mitigation plans
- 🗂️ Maintain accurate commissioning records
- 🧩 Integrate commissioning into project schedules and design phases
- 🧪 Support testing phases like Factory & Harbour Acceptance Trials
🧠 During Design Phase
- Ensure systems are designed to meet operational, safety, and regulatory needs
- Work closely with design teams to embed commissioning requirements early
📍 Working Setup
- Hybrid role: 🏢 Office (Glasgow & Helensburgh) + 🏠 Home.
- ✈️ Occasional travel to other sites and suppliers further on in the project
👥 Future Scope
- Potential to lead and manage a team of Commissioning Engineers
Qualifications
✅ Essential Skills & Experience
- 🧑🔧 10+ years in a technical role, with experience as a Commissioning Manager (or similar)
- ☢️ Nuclear industry experience (licensed/authorised environments) with strong knowledge of:
- Risk management ⚠️
- Quality assurance 📋
- Commissioning standards 🛠️
- 📐 Ability to read and produce technical documents (drawings, reports, specs, plans)
- 🗣️ Strong communication skills (written & face-to-face)
- 🤝 Works well independently and in teams
- 📅 Highly organised, able to manage deadlines across multiple contributors
⭐ Desirable Skills & Experience
- 🎓 Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
- 🔄 Understanding of engineering lifecycle (CICWP)
