We are also supporting the modernisation and development of energy grids, managing the setup and siting for new transmission and distribution networks, and using hydrogen to decarbonise the transport and industry sectors.

Job Description:
We are looking for candidates with a passion for environmental management and a demonstrable commitment to the profession and your career development. You'll will work closely alongside more senior consultants and will receive close support or mentoring at least in the initial stages of a project. Tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the client and the nature and stage of the project being worked on. It may be required to work on multiple projects and with multiple clients simultaneously. Key tasks will be in one or more of the service areas below, depending on need and experience:
- Environmental project management: conducting site inspections; preparing and reviewing management plans; assisting with audits; collecting and analysing performance data; assisting with consent applications; advising project and site teams on environmental issues
- Sustainability strategy: assisting with sustainability appraisals, including the use of tools like BREEAM; developing and monitoring action plans for project objectives; contributing to sustainable design reviews
- Environmental management system (EMS) development: assisting projects to achieve an effective, certified EMS (to e.g. ISO14001); conducting gap analyses; writing procedures; conducting internal audits and liaising with external auditors
- Environmental impact assessment (EIA): working with the wider Environment, Consents & Engagement (ECE) Practice to review and draft EIA chapters and statements to support planning applications
- Wider environmental services: assisting with surveys; report writing; and analysing data
- Environmental Permitting: assisting in obtaining environmental consents including Environment Agency permits and Section 61 Control of Pollution Act
- Documentation and Reporting: assisting in the preparation of written reports and documentation for submissions
- Team Collaboration: collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to share knowledge, provide guidance on consent-related matters, and foster a culture of collaboration and excellence
Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant degree including but, not limited to Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Sustainability and Environmental Management and Natural Sciences
Desirable:
- Affiliate or graduate membership of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IEMA, CIEEM)
- Understanding environmental and sustainability principles
- Understanding environmental legislation and policy and understanding of how to assess compliance
- Awareness of environmental management and assessment tools
- Ability to collect data and undertake analysis and evaluation
- Ability to research and plan sustainable solutions
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills to foster trust and collaboration with various stakeholders
- Technical Writing: Proficiency in writing clear and concise reports, proposals, and policy documents that communicate complex ideas effectively
- Problem solving: Ability to break down issues into manageable components, evaluate options, and develop effective solutions
Additional Information
Requirements for Assystem Graduate Scheme:
- Successful Candidate must be a UK Sole National
- Successful Candidate must be willing to relocate as part of their rotational Scheme (Relocation Support available)
Security Clearance:
The successful applicant must be a UK resident and, due to the nature of the work to be undertaken, applicants will be required to meet this criteria in order to attain a minimum level of BPSS clearance.
