Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the IAM Engineering Lead, the Associate IAM Engineer will support the delivery and operation of ASOS's Identity and Access Management services.

Initially, a significant portion of your time will be spent supporting operational IAM processes and resolving access-related issues. As you build your understanding of the IAM landscape, you will be expected to identify opportunities to simplify, improve, and automate manual activities, basically automate the boring stuff so you can do the exciting stuff!

Success in this role is not measured by how many tickets you process, but by how effectively you eliminate repetitive work through engineering, automation, and process improvement.

You will work across a broad range of IAM technologies and processes including identity lifecycle management, authentication, authorisation, privilege management, access governance, automation, and service improvement. You will also be given ownership of individual projects that contribute to the team's roadmap and wider IAM strategy.

What You'll Be Doing

IAM Operations

  • Support Joiner, Mover and Leaver processes.
  • Review access requests from the wider business.
  • Support access reviews, access packages, entitlement management, and governance activities.
  • Assist with privileged access management processes.
  • Investigate authentication and authorisation issues across IAM platforms.
  • Support audit and compliance activities through evidence gathering and reporting.

Engineering & Automation

  • Identify repetitive operational tasks and develop solutions to automate them.
  • Create and maintain PowerShell scripts, APIs, automation workflows, and supporting tooling.
  • Contribute to Infrastructure as Code and configuration-as-code initiatives.
  • Work with version control systems, pull requests, peer reviews, and engineering standards.
  • Build monitoring, reporting, and operational dashboards that improve visibility and reduce manual effort.
  • Work closely with wider engineering teams to integrate IAM services into platforms and products.

Project Delivery

  • Deliver individual IAM improvement projects under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Participate in larger IAM transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to design discussions and technical documentation.
  • Help improve the user experience of identity and access processes across ASOS.
  • Support the implementation of new IAM capabilities and security controls.

Continuous Improvement

  • Challenge inefficient ways of working and propose better solutions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of IAM best practices and modern identity technologies.
  • Learn from experienced engineers through pairing, mentoring, and project work.
  • Build broad engineering skills that extend beyond IAM operations into automation, software engineering, platform engineering, and cloud technologies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A genuine interest in technology, automation, and problem solving.
  • Experience with scripting or programming, ideally PowerShell.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and concepts.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
  • A desire to understand not just how a process works, but how it could work better.

Desirable

  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Graph, and APIs
  • Experience with Azure, GitHub, Azure DevOps, or automation platforms.
  • Understanding of authentication technologies such as SSO, MFA, OAuth, SAML, or Conditional Access.
  • Experience working within IT Operations, Security, Infrastructure, or Engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of Identity and Access Management principles including least privilege and role-based access control.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12-18 months you will:

  • Become confident operating core IAM services independently.
  • Deliver several automation improvements that reduce manual effort for the team.
  • Take ownership of smaller engineering projects from design through to implementation.
  • Contribute code through the team's standard engineering processes.
  • Reduce the amount of BAU work requiring manual intervention.
  • Demonstrate the skills and behaviours expected of an IAM Engineer.
