Job Description

We are currently looking for a System Engineer to join our growing team in one of the biggest European organizations.

Tasks:

  • Implement periodic firmware and software upgrades of the Vmware Virtual Server Infrastructure in Malta, France, Italy, and Greece to latest versions of all compatible ESX hosts, vCenter appliances and vRealize Operations Manager appliance
  • Monitor infrastructure performance in post-implementation phases
  • Assist on moving the workloads to the servers in all the datacentres. 
  • Provision of virtual machines and storage. 
  • Automate process where possible with scripting 
  • Implement current firmware and upgrades for critical NetApp storage controller infrastructure in Malta and France
  • Monitor array performance in post-implementation phase. 
  • Migrate to the new storage array
  • Assist on the implementation of the fibre channel networking.
  • Identify hardware, software and network problems and propose recovery solutions 
  • Perform regular maintenance on hardware, network, and software components 
  • Configure hardware and software components for optimal performance 
  • Maintain an accurate enterprise configuration management 
  • Run diagnostics to locate source of problems 
  • Communicate effectively with end users 
  • Maintain security and functionality through application of approved software patches 
     

Qualifications

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus minimum 6 years' of relevant professional experience in IT
  • Professional experience of more than 3 years with Vmware Vcenter, Vrealize, ESX
  • Professional experience of more than 3 years with SAN (Netapp and/or EMC/Dell) 
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong interest in technology and a desire to learn and grow in applicable technologies field is required. Skills and knowledge must be kept current, including ongoing active pursuit of certifications.
  • Ability to understand/write/update/review documentation and technical specifications related to infrastructure
  • Ability to understand common network topologies as well as common cabling technologies and standards (fibre/copper, Ethernet)
  • Server management, Operating System (OS) knowledge (Linux, Windows)
  • Virtual servers: VMware training and/or certification.
  • Administration of Backup & Storage systems (knowledge of Veeam would be an asset)
  • Replication & Disaster recovery
  • Familiar with ITIL/ITIL V3 concepts
  • Knowledge of a scripting languages 
  • Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in network infrastructures and network design
  • Ability to actively participate in meetings, very good communication/presentation skills
  • Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in a team.
