Job Description

What will you be doing? 

ALTEN UK is seeking a Electrical Engineer (Cable Routing) to support key infrastructure on a major programme within a Nuclear Project in Bristol. You’ll play a hands-on role in structuring and managing the flow of electrical and instrumentation cables, contributing to the safe and efficient routing of critical systems. This is a fantastic entry point into high-integrity engineering environments with real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement cable routing structures for power, I&C (Instrumentation and Control), and other electrical systems.
  • Interpret layout and electrical diagrams to ensure accurate and compliant routing from origin to endpoint.
  • Support senior engineers in the layout and integration of cable trays, ducts, and penetrations across facilities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure cable routing aligns with system architecture and site requirements.
  • Perform basic checks for separation, bundling, and interconnectivity to ensure compliance with safety and technical standards.
  • Contribute to documentation and support handover preparation for routed cabling systems.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Engineers with 2-12 years of experience in an electrical engineering or related field.
  • Understanding of cable types including power cables, control cables, and I&C cables.
  • Interest in working within highly regulated and technical environments such as energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Familiarity with routing tools, schematics, and physical layout coordination is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn from experienced engineering teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in cable routing, site layouts, or electrical infrastructure design is beneficial.
  • Exposure to energy or industrial projects (nuclear, power generation, infrastructure) is a bonus but not essential.
