  • Full-time
  • Competence area: Mechanical Engineering (Product and Machine Design)
  • Contract Type: Permanent

Company Description

AFRY is a European leader in engineering, design, and advisory services with a global reach. We accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable society by combining deep domain expertise with innovative solutions across infrastructure, industry, and energy.

At AFRY, you will have access to a broad technical network, experienced colleagues, and opportunities for continuous professional development. We believe in empowering our employees and creating an environment where engineers can grow, challenge themselves, and develop their careers.

For this assignment, you will become part of AFRY's engineering organization while working closely with one of Sweden's most exciting high-tech companies within the space sector.

Job Description

About the Role

AFRY is seeking a CAE Engineer within Structural and Thermomechanical Analysis for an exciting assignment in a highly advanced engineering environment focused on space propulsion technology.

This opportunity is ideal for engineers with experience in structural analysis, finite element simulations (FEM), thermomechanical assessments, and product verification, who are motivated by solving complex engineering challenges in demanding operating conditions.

The position is structured as a hire-to-perm arrangement, where you will initially be employed by AFRY while working full-time on-site with our client from day one. Following a successful six-month period, the intention is for the consultant to transition into a permanent position with the client organization.

You will become part of a multidisciplinary engineering team working with products designed for mission-critical applications where reliability, performance, verification, and quality standards are paramount.

About the Assignment

Our client is a leading developer of advanced propulsion solutions for the global space industry. Their products operate in extreme environments and are used in applications where precision, robustness, and performance are essential.

As a CAE Engineer, you will contribute to the development and verification of mechanical and thermal designs throughout the product lifecycle. The role combines analytical work, simulation-driven development, and close collaboration with design, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.

This is a unique opportunity to apply structural and thermal engineering principles within a domain characterized by cutting-edge technology, high technical complexity, and real-world space applications.

Due to the nature of the products and technologies involved, background checks or eligibility requirements may apply depending on the assignment.

Responsibilities

As a CAE Engineer, you will:

  • Perform FEM simulations and structural analyses of components and systems.

  • Conduct static, dynamic, thermal, and thermomechanical assessments.

  • Evaluate designs subjected to extreme thermal and mechanical environments.

  • Support thermal design activities and verification of engineering requirements.

  • Collaborate with design, systems, manufacturing, and test engineers throughout the development process.

  • Contribute to validation activities and correlation between simulations and test results.

  • Document and communicate analysis methodologies, assumptions, and results.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of solid mechanics, strength of materials, and structural analysis.

  • Experience with FEM and engineering simulation tools such as Ansys, Nastran, Abaqus, or equivalent.

  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and apply analytical methods to support design and verification.

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Engineers with 1-5 years of relevant experience are preferred, although recent graduates with a strong technical foundation may also be considered.

Preferred qualifications

Experience within one or more of the following areas is considered an advantage:

  • Thermal analysis and thermomechanical simulations.

  • Heat transfer, thermal design, or multiphysics analysis.

  • Space, aerospace, defense, or other high-technology industries.

  • Verification, validation, and test correlation activities.

  • Material behavior under combined thermal and mechanical loading.

Personal Characteristics

We believe you are:

  • Analytical, structured, and quality-focused.

  • Curious and motivated by solving complex engineering challenges.

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proactive, responsible, and driven to continuously develop your technical expertise.

Additional Information

Application

Welcome to submit your application no later than October 31st. Selection and interviews are conducted continuously, and the position may be filled before the final application date.
