Job Description
We are now seeking an Analyst to join our Management Consulting team focusing on energy markets consulting work on Japan. This role can be based in one of the following locations: Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta, Manila or Tokyo.
You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience to become an industry specialist in a stimulating and supportive environment. Our team specializes in many aspects of the energy transition. We offer strategic and commercial advice, model power systems and markets, solving difficult problems to enable the green transition. As a primary responsibility, you will support AFRY’s growing energy market consulting activities on Japan for a wide range of clients including major investment firms, international developers, utilities, government, and regulatory bodies.
Job responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, interpret, and present both quantitative data as well as regulatory and market information related to the Japanese power sector for a wide variety of projects, with guidance from senior team members.
- Execute electricity market modelling tasks related to Japanese market, with guidance from senior team members.
- Support colleagues on other projects across Asia.
Qualifications
- You will be doing extensive research in Japanese language; therefore we require minimum JLPT N2 certificate.
- We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical – so we are looking for people with an aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis. This includes the ability to pay attention to detail and use MS Excel proficiently.
- Virtually all the work we do requires team working, so if you have good communication skills and the ability to work well with others within a project team and wider office environment you will fit in well.
- In addition, report-writing is a core part of our work and so we are also looking for the ability to explain complex information in a clear and logical way, in English and Japanese, using both MS Word and PowerPoint.
- You will be working in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines, so you will need to be able to think for yourself, be pro-active, and have a business-oriented mindset.
- If you have an understanding of Japanese electricity market dynamics (including any experience with PLEXOS or other energy market modelling software or tools) and energy policy, this is a definite advantage.
- Coding skills, e.g. Python, MS SQL or VBA, are an advantage.
- Our Analysts typically have Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or Engineering from a leading university.
- You must have the right to work in the country you are applying for.
