Job Description
At AFRY, our estimators are responsible for the preparation, review and presentation of capital cost construction estimates for the Process Industries business. You will work as part of the project team to deliver the cost estimate to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and present capital cost estimates on small to large projects and for specific disciplines (civil/structural/architectural; mechanical/piping; electrical/controls) on major projects.
- Understand the full project scope of work and key project planning milestones.
- Provide direction to others on project tasks.
- Prepare indirect costs for field construction cost.
- Work with project team to develop other project costs.
- Participate in risk evaluation for the project.
- Analyze the output against established benchmarks.
- Develop a basis for the estimate.
- Participate in reviews as required.
Travel for site investigations or meetings
Qualifications
- B.S. in Construction Science, Construction Management or Engineering with 5 to 7 years of experience working in the field on construction projects .
OR
- 7 to 10 years of experience working in the field in a construction environment with 3 to 5 years as a supervisor of direct craft activities in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience producing detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
- Desire to succeed as an estimator in an engineering environment.
- Ability to manipulate and manage large data sets in various computer systems, especially in Microsoft Excel.
- The estimator will be analytical, organized and demonstrate a rigorous approach to their work.
- Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Experience in the industrial or heavy industrial sector.
Personal Attributes Desired:
- Knowledge of AACEI recommended practices.
- Analytical Skills.
- Knowledge of construction methods and site requirements for project execution.
- Experience on medium to large scale projects (over $25M).
- Knowledge of EPCM vs EPC project organization.
- Specialty in mechanical, piping or electrical estimating & instrumentation a plus.
- Software: Excel (advanced/expert), Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate/advanced), Sage Estimating (formerly Timberline (intermediate)) or similar database estimating system, a plus.
- Navisworks, Autodesk Assemble or Procore, a plus.
- Detailed knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines, a plus.
