Job Description

PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE:

To participate with project engineering teams by completing the CAD effort in preparation of plans and specifications for engineering projects.  Assist in development of engineering studies.

SCOPE:

  1. Develop CAD Design work for projects.
  2. Preliminary planning of the project as it pertains to CAD design.
  3. Interpret specifications, drawings, and project scope in development of CAD drawings.
  4. Establish and adjust work procedures to meet project schedules.
  5. Perform field surveys in preparation for design activities and to assure adherence to performance/fabrication/design specifications.
  6. Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and related details for projects. 
  7. Prepare drawings and specifications for equipment, buildings and construction materials. 
  8. Prepare construction documents such as building specifications and other bidding documents. 
  9. Consult with other CAD Designers to coordinate CAD activities with other engineering disciplines. 
  10. Perform other miscellaneous tasks as directed.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Manager Civil/Structural.  A close working relationship will exist with project engineers, CAD Designers and other employees on projects as required.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1.  Must possess design knowledge and drafting skills in spe­cial­ized engineering disciplines and their application to engi­neering projects.
  2. Prefer an Associate Degree in specialized engineering design and 5 years experience as a drafter/designer in an engineer­ing environment.
  3. Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to make effective presentations to clients and technical groups. 
  4. Must be capable of accepting the responsibility to coordinate the CAD effort of smaller projects or share in the responsibility to coordinate the CAD effort of large projects.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES DESIRED:

Take‑charge individual with a high energy level, the ability to manage and supervise a staff, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.  Must be hard‑working, possess demonstrated analytical skills, and project an ambitious attitude.
