Job Description

AFFCO Rangiuru is currently seeking a proactive and hands-on Engineering Supervisor to lead our engineering maintenance operations within our Trades Division. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this pivotal role ensures the timely, cost-effective upkeep of plant equipment and utilities, while driving operational excellence and safety across the site.

As Engineering Supervisor, you’ll coordinate reactive and preventative maintenance, contribute to project design and administration, and lead a skilled team of tradespeople. You’ll be instrumental in maintaining plant performance, reducing downtime, and fostering a safety-first culture that empowers your team and supports AFFCO’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations

  • Coordinate day-to-day repairs and maintenance (R&M) with the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Manage the R&M task list, allocate resources effectively, and ensure compliance with target dates and budgets.
  • Actively participate in hands-on repair work and support project design and administration.

Performance & Compliance

  • Maintain plant uptime to best-practice standards.
  • Implement AFFCO’s asset management protocols and maintenance philosophy.
  • Operate within established management systems and explain any budget variations.

Communication & Leadership

  • Provide weekly briefings to direct reports and attend plant meetings.
  • Keep key stakeholders informed of major issues and expenditure.
  • Lead and develop your team, delegate responsibilities, and involve staff in work planning.

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Champion a safety culture that prioritises personal responsibility and proactive risk management.
  • Implement and support site H&S plans, policies, and KPIs.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and root cause analyses; escalate IDLH risks appropriately.
  • Communicate safety alerts, lead toolbox talks, and support H&S representatives and committees.
  • Ensure team competency through induction, training, and coaching.
  • Manage contractor safety and ensure compliance with AFFCO’s H&S Management System.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a skilled leader with a strong technical foundation and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in industrial maintenance supervision or engineering leadership.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair capability.
  • Familiarity with maintenance planning, budgeting, and performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety legislation, systems, and risk management practices.
  • Experience with audits, incident investigations, and emergency preparedness.
  • Relevant trade qualification or engineering certification (preferred).
  • Competency in using maintenance management systems and reporting tools.
