South Pacific Meats, a New Zealand owned, meat processing company has vacancies at our Burnham Processing plant near Christchurch

Job Description

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for receiving beef and lamb livestock from transport agencies and maintaining a constant flow of stock to the processing rooms.

You will oversee a team of 15 - 20 staff whose role is in ensuring animal welfare and animal presentation is maintained at all times as well as compliance with all processes and procedures.

Being able to lead and motivate your team is a key aspect of this role. You will have a committed approach to leadership with the ability to your drive team members to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance goals.

Qualifications

This role requires attention to detail when completing documentation such as receiving stock and producing kill agendas. It also requires the ability to train others particularly in your exceptional animal husbandry skills so as to protect animal welfare at all times.

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership skills,
  • Previous experience in a similar role,
  • Excellent stockmanship, with an empathy for animal welfare,
  • Sound understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements,
  • Good computer skills,
  • A commitment to health and safety.

While previous experience in this role would be an advantage, we are willing to offer training to a successful applicant with suitable experience and the right temperament.
