Job Description
At AFCA, our technology enables fairness for Australians every day. As Head of Product and Platform Engineering, you’ll play a critical role in designing and evolving the enterprise platforms and digital products that power our services, ensuring they’re modern, secure, scalable and built to last.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this senior leadership role provides accountability for engineering excellence, platform strategy and delivery predictability. You’ll work closely with product, architecture and business leaders to turn strategic intent into robust, well‑architected technology solutions that genuinely make a difference
What you'll do:
- Lead enterprise product and platform engineering across core systems, integration, APIs, data and digital services
- Set and embed modern engineering standards to ensure scalable, secure and resilient platforms
- Translate strategy into clear, executable roadmaps in partnership with product and business leaders
- Oversee agile and scaled‑agile delivery to drive predictable, high‑quality outcomes
- Own the technical health, roadmap and evolution of key enterprise platforms
- Balance innovation, technical debt and long‑term platform sustainability
- Champion engineering excellence through DevOps, CI/CD, automation and quality‑first practices
- Lead and develop engineering and delivery leaders, building strong internal capability
- Manage strategic delivery partners and co‑delivery models
- Provide clear insight and assurance in executive and governance forums, working closely with cyber, infrastructure and service teams
Qualifications
What you'll bring:
- Senior leadership experience across product engineering and enterprise platforms in complex organisations.
- Strong background in modern software engineering, integration, APIs and platform‑based architectures.
- Proven experience leading large‑scale, multi‑team delivery using agile and scaled‑agile approaches.
- Deep understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, quality engineering and engineering productivity.
- Strong vendor and systems integrator management capability.
- Credible, outcomes‑focused leader able to engage effectively with executives and senior stakeholders.
