Job Description

AFCA is undertaking a significant expansion of its remit through the Scams External Dispute Resolution (EDR) Project, a critical initiative that will shape how Australians are protected in an increasingly complex financial environment.

We’re looking for a Finance Business Partner to play a pivotal role in designing, influencing and implementing financial change for this landmark program. This is a high-impact opportunity for a commercially astute finance professional who thrives at the intersection of strategy, modelling and stakeholder partnership.

As AFCA’s Finance Business Partner – Scams EDR, you will be a key advisor to senior leaders, working closely with the Scams EDR project team, the broader Finance function, and cross‑functional stakeholders across the organisation.

You’ll lead financial reporting and modelling for the project, support the review and implementation of AFCA’s funding model, and ensure financial integrity as the Scams EDR transitions from design into delivery. This role sits within Corporate Services and reports to the Senior Manager – Finance Business Partnering & Transformation.

What you’ll be doing

In this strategically focused role, you will:

  • Lead project financial reporting, including grant agreement obligations
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all Scams EDR finance-related queries
  • Build and maintain driver‑based financial models covering revenue, costs, capital expenditure and cash flow
  • Conduct sensitivity analysis and scenario modelling to support executive decision making
  • Integrate financial model outputs into AFCA’s annual budget processes for the Scams EDR program and operations
  • Support the review, approval and implementation of changes to AFCA’s funding model in the context of Scams EDR
  • Represent AFCA in responding to external stakeholder and funding model queries
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to develop recommendations and implementation approaches
  • Manage vendor engagements, systems testing and validation related to funding model and financial system changes
  • Partner with internal IT, data teams, auditors and third‑party suppliers to ensure robust, end‑to‑end delivery

This is an initial 18-month contract role.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring

You’re a confident finance partner with strong technical capability and the presence to influence at senior levels. You’ll also bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field
  • CA or CPA qualification
  • several years’ experience in financial analysis, commercial finance or business partnering roles
  • Advanced financial modelling capability, including driver‑based models and scenario analysis
  • Strong systems expertise (e.g. Microsoft D365 FinOps, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills
  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail and a high level of numeracy
  • Clear, persuasive communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure
  • A collaborative mindset and experience working with cross‑functional stakeholders
  • High ethical standards and a strong commitment to confidentiality
