Job Description

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer III to join our Portland, Oregon office. The successful candidate brings strong technical depth in environmental investigations and remediation, demonstrated ownership of tasks and subprojects, and a track record of mentoring staff, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and delivering high-quality work on time and on budget.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Lead task and subproject execution for environmental investigation and remediation programs (soil, soil vapor, groundwater), working with minimal supervision and reporting to a Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager.
  • Plan and perform remediation system operation, maintenance, optimization, and monitoring; develop O&M plans and troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Develop scopes, schedules, and budgets; track progress and variances; support change management and forecasting.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors and field/support staff; plan fieldwork logistics, health and safety, and quality control.
  • Analyze field and laboratory data; prepare conceptual site models; perform routine to advanced engineering calculations and design analyses.
  • Prepare clear, technically robust deliverables, including work plans, design drawings/specifications, remedial action plans, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Support remedial design (e.g., SVE, AS, P&T, in-situ treatment) and construction phase services (submittal reviews, RFIs, field engineering, punch lists).
  • Interface with clients and regulators; support meetings, presentations, and response-to-comments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and scientists; perform QA/QC reviews.
  • Champion health, safety, and quality practices; prepare JHAs/THAs and lead by example in the field.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Environmental Engineering or related field and a minimum 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.  
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check per company policy.
  • Successful candidate will have to pass a background check.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds with assistance during fieldwork and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-hour annual refresher (or ability to obtain prior to start).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common field/data tools; strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Oregon, or ability to obtain within 6–12 months of hire; Washington P.E. is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience, including task leadership, client interaction, and regulatory coordination.
  • Hands-on experience with soil and groundwater remediation systems (design, startup, O&M, optimization) and preparation of plans, specifications, and engineer’s cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with Oregon DEQ cleanup programs and guidance; experience with Washington State Department of Ecology and Pacific Northwest regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated mentorship of junior staff; positive, proactive communicator willing to offer constructive suggestions to teams, subcontractors, clients, and regulators.
  • Working knowledge of data management/visualization and modeling tools (e.g., Excel-based data workflows, GIS/EQuIS/graphics; groundwater or fate/transport modeling exposure a plus).
