Job Description
The Survey & Track Inspector carries out site survey and setting-out of civil works, and inspects and monitors permanent way and track works, on the PMEC High-Speed Rail Project, a double-track railway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The role checks that works are built in the correct position, alignment and level, in line with approved designs, specifications and tolerances. It also checks that track materials and workmanship meet the standards required for safe, reliable high-speed rail operation, from construction through to handover.
Key Responsibilities
Site Survey & Setting-Out (Civil Works)
- Conduct survey and setting-out of civil works, including earthworks, concrete, structures, drainage and utilities.
- Establish and verify survey control points, benchmarks and reference grids against approved drawings, design data and project coordinate systems and datums.
- Verify the alignment, levels and dimensions of constructed works against project standards and specifications.
- Carry out as-built surveys to confirm conformance with approved design and tolerances.
Track & Permanent Way Inspection
- Inspect permanent way and track works, including rail, sleepers, fastenings, ballast or slab track, welding and track geometry.
- Verify track materials and workmanship against approved drawings, specifications, and project and track construction standards.
- Attend and witness track-related testing and measurement activities, such as track geometry checks, rail welding, and alignment and gauge checks, and verify results against acceptance criteria.
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Support testing and commissioning activities related to survey and track works.
- Compile and verify handover documentation, including as-built survey records and track geometry records.
Non-Conformances & Quality Records
- Raise and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions for survey or track work and materials that do not meet approved requirements, following them through to close-out.
- Complete survey and inspection checklists, field records and daily reports for all survey and inspection activities.
- Maintain accurate survey and quality records, including coordinate registers, photographs and supporting documentation.
Coordination & Compliance
- Liaise with engineering, construction, and contractor survey, track/permanent way and QA/QC teams to coordinate setting-out, inspection requests and hold/witness points.
- Support internal and external audits related to survey and quality control.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, the Quality Management Plan, and applicable civil, track and rail standards.
- Report survey and inspection findings and quality trends to the QA/QC Manager, escalating significant concerns promptly.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience in railway surveying or track inspection.
- Strong background in either railway surveying or track/permanent way inspection, with working knowledge of the other.
- Good knowledge of track geometry, alignment, construction quality procedures and survey/track inspection methods.
- Hands-on experience with surveying instruments such as total stations, GNSS, digital levels and track geometry trolleys.
- Ability to work accurately in a high-speed rail construction environment.
Desirable
- Middle East or UAE project experience.
- High-speed or mainline rail project experience.
- Familiarity with Leica or Trimble equipment and survey/CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years' experience in survey, inspection or site supervision, [including at least 2–3 years on railway projects].
