Job Description
AECOM is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring 15 plus years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on mining and industrial projects.
How you’ll make a difference:
- Provide senior-level technical leadership, guidance and support to the structural design team and wider multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring the consistent application of engineering best practice and project standards. Use your delivery experience with different construction materials to advise and liaise with clients throughout both the design and construction phases of major projects
- Lead the delivery of structural design solutions from concept development through detailed design and construction, leveraging extensive experience across a range of construction materials and structural systems to achieve safe, practical and efficient outcomes. Use your technical expertise to perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings and prepare technical specification sections
- Mentor and support engineers and designers through design development, technical problem-solving and review processes, fostering technical excellence and professional growth within the team
- Oversee drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, project requirements, and quality management processes
- Collaborate as a key member of multidisciplinary project teams, participating inter-disciplinary design reviews, resolving technical interfaces and ensuring the effective integration of structural solutions with other engineering disciplines.

The qualities that help you thrive
- Bachelor of Engineering, with ideally 15+ years' experience delivering complex structural engineering projects across mining, industrial, and related sectors
- Current Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation and Membership of Engineers Australia (MIEAust) are required. Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
- Proven experience leading mining and industrial projects, coordinating multi-disciplinary interfaces and delivering projects through all phases of design and construction
- Strong commercial awareness and project delivery experience, with a proven track record of leading engineering teams to deliver high-quality design solutions on time and within budget
- Advanced proficiency in industry-standard structural engineering software, including SpaceGass and Strand7, with experience using IDEA StatiCa highly regarded
- Experience in the design and assessment of concrete and steel structures
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to graduate and developing structural engineers
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
