Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Building Design, Strategy & Growth to join our Buildings + Places business in the Middle East.
This role is suited to an experienced project manager from a multidisciplinary building design consultancy who is commercially minded and looking to broaden their career beyond the management of individual projects.
The successful candidate will ideally have worked on the consultant side as a Project Manager, Design Manager or within a Lead Design Consultant (LDC) environment, with a strong understanding of multidisciplinary design delivery, scope, programme, resourcing, commercial performance and risk.
Working within the Strategy & Growth team, you will apply this project delivery experience at the front end of the business, helping AECOM identify, shape, position, price and secure major building design commissions across the Middle East.
The role provides exposure to major clients, strategic pursuits, commercial decision-making and senior business leadership. It offers a strong career pathway for an individual looking to progress from managing projects towards broader client, commercial, operational and corporate leadership roles.
Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate major building design pursuits from opportunity qualification through proposal development, commercial review and submission.
• Review RFPs, client briefs and supporting information to establish scope, deliverables, programme, interfaces and key risks.
• Apply practical project management and LDC experience to develop robust delivery strategies for multidisciplinary building commissions.
• Work with Architecture, Structures, MEP, Design Management and specialist disciplines to establish project organisation, resourcing, man-hour estimates and delivery programmes.
• Develop and challenge scopes, assumptions, exclusions and interfaces to ensure proposals are commercially and operationally robust.
• Support development of fee and commercial strategies, balancing competitiveness with deliverability, risk and appropriate commercial return.
• Identify project, contractual, programme and commercial risks and coordinate appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate inputs from multidisciplinary teams, regional offices and other AECOM business lines.
• Participate in client engagement, technical workshops, presentations and commercial discussions during the pursuit process.
• Support opportunity qualification and go/no-go decisions through clear assessment of scope, resources, competitive position and risk.
• Coordinate subconsultant strategies, including scope, commercial evaluation and negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with AECOM governance, approvals, legal and risk-management requirements.
• Prepare and present pursuit strategies and recommendations to senior leadership and internal governance forums.
• Maintain accurate pipeline and opportunity information and support forecasting and business reporting.
• Capture lessons from project delivery and pursuits to continuously improve future project strategies and delivery models.
Career Opportunity
This role is intended for someone who understands how major building projects are delivered but is increasingly interested in the decisions that happen before delivery begins: which projects are pursued, how they are structured, how fees and resources are established, how risks are managed and how client relationships are developed.
It provides the opportunity to remain closely connected to building design while developing broader experience in strategy, commercial decision-making, major pursuits and business leadership.
For the right individual, it is a progression from managing projects to helping shape the business that creates them.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Project Management or a related built-environment discipline.
• Significant experience within a multidisciplinary building design consultancy.
• Demonstrable consultant-side experience as a Project Manager, Design Manager or in a comparable multidisciplinary role.
• Experience working within a Lead Design Consultant environment is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of the building design process and coordination of Architecture, Structures, MEP and specialist disciplines.
• Strong understanding of scope, programme, resourcing, change, project risk and commercial performance.
• Commercially minded, with the ability to understand the relationship between scope, resources, programme, risk and fee.
• Experience reviewing RFPs, developing scopes of services and coordinating multidisciplinary project requirements.
• Strong client-facing, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work through ambiguity and develop clear, practical and commercially sound recommendations.
• Middle East experience and knowledge of regional clients and major development programmes would be advantageous.
