Job Description

  • Provide expert technical advice on road safety planning, design, implementation, monitoring, and management for major highway projects.
  • Conduct and review Road Safety Audits (RSA) at various project stages, including feasibility/design, construction, and pre-opening/operational stages, as applicable.
  • Review highway designs, drawings, junctions, interchanges, intersections, median arrangements, curves, signage, markings, and other features from a road safety perspective.
  • Identify road safety deficiencies, hazardous locations, accident-prone areas, and black spots, and recommend appropriate engineering and corrective measures.
  • Prepare, review, and monitor implementation of Road Safety Management Plans (RSMP) for major/inter-urban highway projects.
  • Provide technical guidance on traffic management, work-zone safety, road signs, road markings, delineators, crash barriers, lighting, pedestrian facilities, and other road safety measures.
  • Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of approved road safety measures during highway construction and operation, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Analyse available accident/incident data and traffic safety information to identify safety trends, risk locations, and suitable mitigation measures.
  • Coordinate with the Client, Team Leader/Project Manager, Contractor, Police/Traffic Authorities, and other stakeholders on road safety issues and facilitate implementation of corrective measures.
  • Prepare and review road safety audit reports, safety inspection reports, black-spot improvement proposals, monitoring reports, and other technical documentation, and provide recommendations for improving overall highway safety.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Graduate in Civil Engineering from a recognized University.
  2. Professional Experience of at least 10 years in handling Highway projects.
  3. Minimum 5 years experience in Road Safety works of Major Highway Projects (4/6 laning projects).
  4. Experience in Road Safety Audit of at least 2 highway/expressway projects including 1 at design stage.
  5. Experience in Road Safety Management Plan.
  6. Medical certificate of fitness as per Appendix-B-l.  (in case of Age being more than 60 years)

Preferential Qualifications:

  1. Post Graduate Degree in Traffic Transportation/Safety Engineering.
  2. Experience in identification and improvement of black spots on Major Highway Projects.
  3. Experience in preparation of Road Safety Management Plan for inter urban Highways.
  4. 15 days Certificate course on Road Safety Audit from IAHE/CRRI.
