Job Description

Working closely with the Mechanical Engineering team, the Mechanical Designer contributes to the design, integration, and drafting of mechanical equipment and systems for hydroelectric facilities, supporting both new construction projects and the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure. Projects primarily involve heavy mechanical equipment, including gates, hoists, and auxiliary piping systems (water, air, and oil).

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and development of mechanical solutions tailored to project requirements;
  • Prepare detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using computer-aided design (CAD) software;
  • Produce general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, and required technical documentation;
  • Develop material take-offs and contribute to the preparation of technical specifications;
  • Coordinate technical activities with other disciplines, including civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation & controls;
  • Participate in the review and validation of technical deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable standards and client requirements;
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, construction, and commissioning phases, as required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field;
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience;
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Revit 3D is considered an asset;
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
  • Ability to understand and meet project objectives related to cost, quality, and schedule;
  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work independently;
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders.
