Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced On-Site Safety Officer to support a major data center project in Las Vegas, NV. This position will serve as AECOM’s on-site safety representative and provide independent oversight of construction activities to help ensure a safe and compliant work environment throughout the duration of the project. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving safety excellence by conducting field observations, auditing contractor performance, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements.

This role requires a proactive safety professional with strong field presence, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring project activities, identifying potential risks, recommending corrective actions, and fostering a culture of safety across all phases of construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as AECOM’s on-site safety representative for the project throughout the construction, commissioning, start-up and activation phases.
  • Work directly with vendors retained by the Owner and support participation in the Owner's contractor prequalification and safety compliance programs.
  • Conduct daily site safety walks to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Perform routine and targeted safety audits of construction activities and document findings.
  • Review GC’s, EPC’s and other on-site stakeholders safety reports, programs, and performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitor construction operations to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, project-specific safety requirements, and Owner EHS policies and procedures.
  • Complete and maintain Owner-required internal safety reports and documentation.
  • Verify that all contractors and subcontractors perform work in accordance with project safety requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide safety updates, trends, and recommendations to project leadership.
  • Collaborate with project management, field supervision, and contractors to proactively identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Track corrective actions and verify timely closure of safety observations and audit findings.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and constructive engagement with project personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field and 4+ years of construction safety experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle check, drug screen, and all related background check items.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of construction safety experience supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.
  • Professional safety certification such as CSP, CHST, ASP, OHST, or equivalent is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing contractor and subcontractor compliance with owner-specific EHS requirements.
  • Strong background conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective action programs.
  • Experience utilizing safety management systems, audit platforms, and incident reporting software.
  • Proven ability to influence safety performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement across multiple project stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting large construction projects in an on-site safety oversight role.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction industry safety standards.
  • Experience reviewing contractor safety programs, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with project stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform routine site walks and inspections in active construction environments.
