Job Description

The Senior Systems Integration & Systems Engineer is responsible for leading systems engineering and integration activities across the project lifecycle. The role ensures that complex systems are designed, integrated, verified, and delivered in accordance with customer, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Working across multidisciplinary teams, the engineer provides technical leadership in requirements management, system integration, interface management, verification and validation, and engineering assurance. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to coordinate technical activities across multiple engineering disciplines and suppliers.

What you’ll do

  • Apply and tailor Systems Engineering lifecycle processes to project scope, complexity, risk and delivery model.
  • Define systems: analyse stakeholder and operational needs, develop the System Breakdown Structure (SBS), perform functional decomposition and set system boundaries.
  • Manage requirements end to end (elicitation, analysis, development, allocation, traceability, baselining, compliance and verification), including maintaining RVTMs.
  • Develop functional and physical architectures; allocate functions and requirements to system elements and define relationships across systems and subsystems.
  • Identify and manage internal and external interfaces and dependencies; support multidisciplinary teams to resolve interface issues.
  • Plan Systems Integration: define integration dependencies, sequencing, constraints, risks and coordination across disciplines and delivery partners.
  • Assess change impacts and apply structured technical risk and decision management to maintain system integrity.
  • Provide senior technical input to design and technical reviews; identify gaps, inconsistencies and integration risks and drive timely resolution.
  • Produce high-quality Systems Engineering plans, reports, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Lead defined work packages to agreed scope, schedule and budget.
  • Mentor Systems Engineers and graduates; help build our Systems Engineering capability.
  • Support client engagement and proposals, contributing to methods, scopes and estimates.

Qualifications

Systems Engineering is a broad discipline, and we recognise that candidates develop expertise through different career paths. You do not need to meet every requirement below to apply. If you have a strong Systems Engineering foundation, relevant experience across some of these areas and believe you would be a good fit for the role, we encourage you to apply.

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, Systems Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
  • Demonstrated delivery of Systems Engineering on complex projects (transport, infrastructure, technology or safety-critical environments).
  • Proficiency in Requirements Engineering and Management (IBM DOORS/DOORS Next or similar), including RVTMs.
  • Experience in Systems Architecture and SBS development.
  • Interface identification and management; Systems Integration planning.
  • Understanding of Verification and Validation across the lifecycle.
  • Ability to independently apply and tailor Systems Engineering lifecycle processes to context.
  • Experience delivering technical work packages and guiding junior team members.
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., CPEng, RPEQ, INCOSE CSEP/ASEP) is valued, or progress toward it.

Nice to have

  • ConOps/OpsCon development and translation into system definition and requirements.
  • SEMP and supporting Requirements Management, V&V and Systems Integration plans or strategies.
  • Advanced or administration experience with IBM DOORS/DOORS Next.
  • Exposure to MBSE and architecture modelling (e.g., Capella or similar).
  • Operational readiness and transition planning.
  • Configuration Management and change control.
  • Testing, commissioning and integration verification experience.

Additional Information

  • Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, job-sharing and hybrid work options
  • Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
  • Volunteer and representation leave
  • Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
