Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineering Manager to join our established transportation engineering team in Atlanta, GA. This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer who enjoys leading technical design, shaping analysis approaches, and contributing expertise across a wide range of traffic engineering and traffic safety projects. You’ll work closely with a respected group of engineers on meaningful studies and design efforts that support our client's real‑world transportation decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Perform various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for Traffic Engineering team.
- Lead day-to-day traffic engineering production by assigning tasks, maintaining schedules and verifying the quality of deliverables
- Guide technical staff that develop traffic engineering reports and safety studies that can include traffic forecasting, traffic simulations, cost estimates and conceptual layouts
- Guide technical staff that develop construction plans for traffic safety and operations improvement projects
- Support the development of technical approaches for projects
- Ensure compliance with GDOT standards and requirements
- Lead and coordinate the advancement of projects through the GDOT Plan Development Process (PDP), ensuring milestones, reviews, approvals, and deliverables are completed on schedule and in accordance with GDOT requirements.
- Perform detailed QA/QC reviews of deliverables prior to submittals
- Develop and track scope, schedule, and budget; proactively identify and communicate risks or issues to the PM and technical staff
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers to support team performance and development
- Coordinate effectively with clients and subconsultants
- Represent AECOM at stakeholder meetings and public engagements.
- Collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines on larger projects that require traffic engineering services
- Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
Qualifications
Minimum :
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline
- 8 years of related traffic engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Georgia or the ability to obtain within 6 months
Preferred:
- Experience with GDOT standards, regulations, and guidelines, including MUTCD and traffic analysis software.
- Experience with the GDOT Pedestrian and Streetscape Guide and similar documents
- Experience managing project delivery, schedules, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams following the GDOT PDP for transportation projects.
- Experience serving as task manager, deputy project manager, or project manager on GDOT projects.
- Experience producing technical memos and reports
- Experience coordinating directly with GDOT offices, local governments, and other project stakeholders during project development and delivery.
- Experience presenting to clients and/or stakeholders
- Experience leading and supervising technical staff, including workload management, mentoring, and performance development.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and balancing resources across a portfolio of work.
- Experience supporting client relationship management, business development, and proposal preparation for transportation projects.
- 12 years of relevant traffic engineering experience
