Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering practice. This entry-level role is designed for recent graduates or early-career professionals who are passionate about building services engineering and eager to develop their technical skills in a collaborative environment. As a Junior Engineer, you will work under the supervision of experienced engineers, contributing to the design and delivery of electrical systems for a variety of building projects. This is an excellent opportunity to begin your career with a global leader in engineering, where you will receive guidance, mentorship, and exposure to industry best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in producing electrical design elements for building services projects, including calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and working drawings under supervision.
- Perform basic engineering calculations: cable sizing, voltage drop, fault level, and protection discrimination, following established procedures and guidance.
- Use Revit MEP, or other engineering software to prepare electrical documentation and models, complying with project and team standards.
- Collect, analyze, and verify engineering data from project inputs (client briefs, surveys, statutory submissions) using established procedures, flagging gaps or conflicts for senior review.
- Support design coordination with other engineering disciplines, participating in interdisciplinary reviews and resolving routine issues with guidance.
- Assist in preparing project deliverables — design reports, specifications, drawings, and schedules — for review by senior engineers.
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with budget and schedule commitments for assigned tasks, reporting progress and risks to the project team lead.
- Perform self-checks on work products prior to submission, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Participate in digital workflows, including BIM and CAD production, and contribute to clash detection and coordination processes within the Common Data Environment (ACC, BIM 360, or equivalent).
- Exchange information on technical matters clearly and constructively with internal teams, building relationships within own team and other internal project teams.
- Support construction-phase activities: site visits, RFI responses, technical query resolution, and review of contractor shop drawings and material submittals under supervision.
- Show interest in accepting new responsibilities and provide feedback about existing procedures to make improvements.
- Interact and exchange information with colleagues, contributing to knowledge-sharing sessions and internal CPD events.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with building services in electrical engineering, especially LV systems design.
- Basic knowledge of LV design standards.
- Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, MATLAB, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to identify discrepancies in engineering data and seek guidance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to exchange technical information clearly with colleagues.
Nice to have:
- Internship or entry-level engineering experience.
- Exposure to LV design and calculation software (Amtech Pro, ETAP, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with emergency power systems and ELV interfaces (fire alarm, security, ICT systems).
- Awareness of energy performance standards and sustainability targets.
- Experience with Autodesk Forma or similar platforms.
