Job Description
Job Title: Hydrologist (AECOM Aviation)
Location: Gurugram
Experience: 2-3 Years
Role Overview:
The Airport Drainage Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, and reviewing stormwater and surface drainage systems for airside and landside facilities. The role involves ensuring compliance with ICAO, FAA, MoCA, CPHEEO, CWC, IRC and other regulatory requirements while delivering sustainable, resilient, and cost-effective drainage solutions that support safe airport operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Engineering
- Develop drainage designs for runway, taxiway, apron, landside roads, and ancillary facilities.
- Prepare hydraulic and hydrological calculations including rainfall-runoff analysis, retention/detention pond sizing, culverts, channels, and pipe networks.
- Use design software such as SewerGEMS, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, or similar tools for modeling.
- Integrate drainage designs with airfield grading plans to ensure compliance with pavement requirements.
- Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs adhere to ICAO Annex 14, FAA AC 150/5320-5D, IS Codes, and DGCA guidelines.
- Conduct flood risk assessments and climate resilience studies for airport projects.
- Project Execution & Coordination
- Support preparation of design drawings, specifications, BOQs, and technical reports.
- Review and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (pavement, geotechnical, utilities, airside planning).
- Provide technical input during construction, review shop drawings, and resolve site drainage issues.
- Sustainability & Innovation
- Implement sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) such as infiltration trenches, bio-swales, rainwater harvesting, and green infrastructure where feasible.
- Incorporate climate resilience and future rainfall scenarios into design
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (master’s in water resources / Hydraulics preferred).
- 2–3 years of proven experience in drainage design, preferably with at least 1+ years in airport or airfield projects.
- Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management.
- Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormCAD, SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MIKE URBAN, or similar.
- Familiarity with ICAO, FAA, DGCA, IS standards and other guidelines of MoUD, NBC, CWC, MoCA, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and manage project deliverables.
Key Deliverables:
- Support Sr. Hydrologist
- Drainage master plans and reports.
- Hydraulic and hydrologic design models.
- Detailed design drawings, BOQs, and specifications.
- Technical support during design reviews and construction phases.
