Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places is seeking a Structural Specialist to be based in Virginia Beach, VA.

The ideal candidate will perform as a Structural Specialist and have experience implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM) on a variety of exciting complex projects.  The position will support a wide range of projects across industries including government, commercial, and industrial. This position offers significant project ownership while continuing to deepen expertise in the structural engineering field.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and manage detailed 3D models for structural contract drawing deliverables on multiple project types including large/complex projects.
  • Update and manage BIM standards, protocols, and digital workflows.
  • Encourage use of digital tools to review, influence, and enhance design quality processes.
  • Stay informed of new developments and requirements to recommend changes in applications.
  • Possess a strong aptitude to work independently and use creative solutions to solve technical problems.
  • Conduct condition assessments, feasibility studies, and structural investigations.
  • Perform construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, and site observations.
  • Perform as a technical resource and quality control reviewer for structural engineering deliverables prepared by others.
  • Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide regular mentorship and technical guidance to Junior Engineering staff.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) plus six (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Six (6) years of BIM Management experience.
  • Demonstrated history of progressive experience in the structural engineering field with a background in vertical construction projects.
  • Valid Driver’s license and ability to conduct field/site visits.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review. 
  • Due to the nature of the role, must be a United States Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fifteen (15) plus years of related experience.
  • Proficient with management, production, manipulation and assembly of large Revit models.
  • Ability to perform construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, and structural inspections.
  • Capable to support field studies and site assessments.
  • Ability to provide quality control and quality assurance for submittals.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals and groups.
  • Maintains standards, best practices, and processes for modeling, content creation, and advanced digital developments.
  • Ability to coordinate and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule with regular in-office presence in Virginia Beach, VA.
