Job Description
Scholarship Purpose
This annual scholarship is a legacy to AECOM’s colleague, the late Dr Jonathan Harris. The aim of the scholarship is to support the academic development and achievement of undergraduate engineers that have a connection to or live in North/Far North Queensland.
What’s on Offer
Up to $10,000 + paid work placements at a competitive hourly rate, over 2 years.
In addition to your scholarship payment, the true value of this opportunity is receiving coaching and mentoring by our skilled engineers, and exposure to a variety of projects and clients.
The successful scholarship recipient will be required to complete industry work placements in the Townsville or Cairns office. The period of engagement will be aligned to your university’s placement requirement.
We’ve had a great track record of engaging our co-op, vacation work and scholarship holders beyond their industry placements, working part-time and into graduate employment. We are a place of opportunity and development, so come and build your career with AECOM.
Qualifications
Eligibility
- Be enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Civil Engineering, entering your second or third year of your degree.
- Have an interest in employment in the North or Far North Queensland region.
- Be available and committed to a completing your industry work placements with AECOM.
- Not be receiving any other employer-linked bursary or scholarship.
- Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, holder of a Humanitarian Visa or New Zealand Citizen with a permanent home address in Australia;
Note that candidates do not have to be experiencing financial hardship in order to apply for this opportunity.

Terms, Conditions and Ongoing Eligibility Requirements
Payment:
- $5000 per year (fulltime study load)
- $2500 per year (part time study load)
Payments may continue to be awarded on a pro rata basis to students completing less than 12 credit points in extenuating circumstances.
Ongoing Eligibility:
In addition to the eligibility criteria, the successful applicant must:
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 4.0 each term.
- Remain enrolled in the course as at Census Date each term.
- Commit to and participate in paid work placements with AECOM.
Please note that failure to meet the continuing eligibility criteria may result in the scholarship being cancelled.
