Job Description
AECOM’s Disaster Recovery Division is seeking Substantial Damage Estimator to join our team to develop our On-Call Cadre. Placement is not immediate and will occur based on operational need. The cadre is designed to build a roster of qualified candidates for temporary assignments.
Substantial Damage Estimators will be responsible for collecting data to assist in determining if a structure’s repair costs meet or exceed a certain threshold of its pre-damage market value. Candidates must be willing and available to deploy on short notice, as needed.
The Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) duties include the following:
- Perform field inspections of disaster-affected residential and non-residential structures.
- Document damages through photographs, measurements, notes, and inspection reports.
- Verify damages, quantities, dimensions, and scope of work for eligibility.
- Coordinate and communicate with internal team and external stakeholders such as clients, disaster affected persons, contractors.
- Ensure that program policies and procedures are adhered to and that inspections and documentation comply with applicable federal, state and local regulations.
- Ensure all safety requirements are met during site inspections.
- Maintain professionalism and strong customer service while working with disaster-affected communities.
- Provide on-site support as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma and 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid US driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using FEMA’s Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) tool to input data as needed, ensuring compliance with FEMA protocols.
- Ability to generate detailed reports summarizing findings in compliance with FEMA standards. Reports may include measurements, photos, sketches or maps.
- Knowledge of National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations, Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs), and floodplain management compliance.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal disaster recovery.
- Experience supporting large-scale disaster response operations.
- Ability to interpret technical data.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and extended deployments as needed. Extended hours and rapid response may be required during activations.
