Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Urban Advisory Consultant to join our dynamic team in Shanghai, China. The successful candidate will support the delivery of strategic planning, urban development, city-shaping, and advisory projects for government, private sector, and institutional clients.

The role requires a combination of urban planning knowledge, strategic thinking, analytical capability, and stakeholder engagement skills to help clients solve complex urban and development challenges.

What you’ll do

Urban Strategy & Advisory

  • Support the development of urban development strategies, city visioning studies, and regional planning projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis on urbanization trends, demographics, economic development, and land use planning.
  • Assist in advising government agencies and private-sector clients on urban growth, regeneration, and infrastructure-led development opportunities.
  • Contribute to policy development, strategic planning frameworks, and implementation roadmaps.

Master Planning & Urban Development

  • Participate in master planning, precinct planning, and urban design projects.
  • Support the preparation of development concepts, land-use strategies, and planning recommendations.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including planners, architects, economists, engineers, and landscape architects.

Market & Development Analysis

  • Conduct market assessments and feasibility studies.
  • Analyze development opportunities, investment potential, and economic impacts.
  • Support business cases for public and private sector projects.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist in client presentations, workshops, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Prepare reports, proposals, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and project teams.

Qualifications

Meet the requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Economics, Accounting, or related disciplines.

Experience

  • 5–8+ years of relevant experience in:
  1. Urban Advisory
  2. Strategy Consulting
  3. Real Estate Advisory
  4. Development Consulting
  • Demonstrated experience leading workstreams and managing client relationships.

Preferred Background

Candidates from Consulting Firms like big 4 are highly regarded.
