We are currently recruiting a Principal Engineer - Hydraulics and Drainage with experience in hydrological assessments that inform flood risk management, major infrastructure planning, water resources strategy, and environmental permitting, to join our busy and expanding experienced team. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of projects. Our clients work for private and public sectors and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors. Our group has an established track record of successfully delivering water designs for many years, throughout UK&I, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand among others. You may have the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic Transportation and Water projects, being part of a diverse and multicultural team for Enterprise Capabilities.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Lead hydrological assessments to support flood risk appraisals, infrastructure design, catchment strategies, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Provide technical direction on rainfall-runoff modelling, river flow estimation, climate change allowances, and catchment analysis.
  • Oversee and review hydrological modelling outputs, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with the regulatory guidance.
  • Act as technical lead on major frameworks and multidisciplinary projects across transport, energy, water, and development sectors.
  • Advise clients on flood risk policy, drainage strategy, abstraction licensing, and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Mentor and develop junior hydrologists, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    • Over 10 years of experience delivering hydrological assessments within consultancy or regulatory environments.
    • Strong knowledge of UK hydrological guidance (e.g., FEH methods, Flood Estimation Handbook, EA guidance).
    • Demonstrable experience working on projects in UK&I.
    • Experience with hydrological modelling tools and data analysis software.
    • Proven ability to lead projects and provide technical oversight.
    • Fluent in English, both oral and written.

    • Bachelor or Master degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Engineering or related field.
