We are currently recruiting a Principal Flood Modeller with experience in flood modelling and flood risk assessments, to join our busy and expanding experienced team. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of projects. Our clients work for private and public sectors and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors. Our group has an established track record of successfully delivering water designs for many years, throughout UK&I, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand among others. You may have the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic Transportation and Water projects, being part of a diverse and multicultural team for Enterprise Capabilities.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Technical Expert: Lead the estimation of flood flows using established methodologies in the Flood Estimations Handbook. Develop and check hydraulic models (using packages such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS and InfoWorks ICM) to assist the design of flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, river restoration projects or the creation of flood maps.
  • Deliver: Produce and review high-quality technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties in the model build process. Conceptualise and scope modelling and hydrological approaches, with consideration of the risks and opportunities in each.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with our teams of engineers and technical specialists to help our clients deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.
  • Lead: Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development and build relationships with internal clients and across other technical disciplines.
  • Quality: Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Over 10 years of experience in flood modelling and flood risk assessment.
  • Significant experience in the application of hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller and/ or TUFLOW) and hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2.
  • Demonstrable experience working on projects in UK&I.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and / or MapInfo.
  • Experience of other modelling types and software would be advantageous, such as flood forecasting modelling or water quality modelling using Mike 11.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Engineering or related field.
