Job Description
AECOM is searching for a junior or intermediate Civil Engineering EIT, Civil Engineer, or Civil Engineering Technologist for a new position based in our Burnaby, BC office.
The ideal candidate will have a general understanding of civil design, construction, MMCD and/or NMS standards and some experience in construction services. They will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and clients. They will have strong communication and problem-solving skills to manage communications among contractors, clients, and third parties.
The successful candidate will be expected to support the delivery of water resources (drainage, green infrastructure, pump stations, erosion control, etc.) assignments in municipal, highway and mining projects. At times, it may be required to support other sanitary and water projects (mains, reservoirs, pump stations, etc.).
This role is based out of our Burnaby office but will require regular travel to project sites in the Vancouver Lower Mainland and in the Sea to Sky area. The position may require travelling to northern BC, Yukon, or the NWT for short-term assignments.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform construction site inspections
- Prepare construction inspection reports
- Organize construction meetings and write meeting minutes
- Coordinate with discipline leads, engineers-of-records and designers to respond to requests for information
- Write memos to respond to requests for information
- Keep the project files organized on a continuous basis
- Review contemplated change orders submitted by contractors
- Complete contract administration documentation
- Support the design team in writing specifications and preparing cost estimates and tender packages
- Meet all safety requirements and act as AECOM Safety Representative
- Meet all AECOM quality requirements
- Assisting with the preparation of construction cost estimates
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field + 2 years of experience in civil engineering design and construction inspections; OR
- Diploma/Certificate in civil engineering technology + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of contract documentation, including MMCD and NMS
- Interest in certifying as MMCD Certified Contract Administration
- Working knowledge of civil engineering concepts (pipes, ditches, culverts, headwalls, pumps, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to use AutoCAD and Civil 3D software for reviewing engineering drawings, site layouts, grading plans, and construction details.
- Able to collaborate with design teams to ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with project standards.
- Working knowledge of preparing preliminary and detailed cost estimates by extracting quantities from design models and drawings, and applying current unit rates to support project budgeting and tendering.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to respond to changing demands, be decisive under pressure, and remain calm in challenging situations
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Valid BC Class V Driver's License and access to a vehicle
- Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
