Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking an Intermediate Civil CAD Designer for immediate employment in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will possess a robust understanding of civil engineering technology and demonstrate proficiency in Civil 3D CAD software. They will be confident in using surveying equipment, including GPS and total stations, and will have substantial experience in the surveying, design, and inspection of municipal infrastructure. The Intermediate Civil CAD Designer will be expected to work collaboratively within a team environment and communicate effectively with project team members and clients. This role supports the delivery of infrastructure solutions primarily within the municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Design municipal infrastructure using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
- Lead road reconstruction, land development, stormwater management, and site plan design projects.
- Oversee lot grading design, surveying, and inspection/certification processes.
- Collaborate on complex data sets alongside other CAD and GIS technical staff.
- Ensure overall data quality and integrity throughout the design process.
- Prepare detailed civil design drawings and calculations.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil projects.
- Generate documentation for design projects and comprehensive reports.
- Implement quality control procedures to maintain high standards.
- Promptly relay engineering-related issues to the Project Manager and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
- Conduct occasional construction site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent).
- 4+ years of related experience in civil engineering CAD/design.
- Design experience with surface grading, watermain, sewer pipe networks, and detailed design.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Experience performing topographic surveys using various surveying equipment, including GPS and total station.
- Certified or eligible for certification as a C.E.T. and a member of TechNova (Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Nova Scotia).
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of relevant experience in municipal civil engineering CAD/design.
- Civil 3D versions from 2016 to current, Bentley MicroStation V8i, InRoads, and OpenRoads.
- Experience creating base plans from collected survey data.
- Proficient in working with GIS data.
- Experience with scanning technology (LIDAR, photogrammetry, etc.) and point clouds.
- Strong background in road reconstruction design, land development, lot grading, and stormwater management.
- Expertise in quantity take-offs and cost estimating.
