Job Description

About Enterprise Capabilities

Fundamental to our Think and Act Globally strategy and digital adoption, Enterprise Capabilities (EC) is AECOM’s primary vehicle for workshare. Operating across geographic boundaries and time-zones, EC partners with regional and Global Business Line project teams to provide technical expertise, accelerate delivery and keep AECOM competitive in the industry.

With a team of over 3000 technical professionals located across nine countries and remote technical anchors, EC teams are trusted to deliver high-quality, specialist services that help to fill capability gaps, resourcing needs and technical constraints on projects of all scopes and sizes.

We are currently looking to hire an Engineer with experience in bridges and/or structures design, to join our busy and expanding team in Enterprise Capabilities, Europe (Madrid).

Our Bridges and Structures team has a strong track record delivering structural bridge engineering designs in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Latin America and the Middle East. With us, you will be able to contribute and participate in iconic transportation infrastructure projects within a diverse and multicultural environment.

You will be involved in all phases of project development, from conceptual and feasibility studies to preliminary designs and detailed design engineering, covering a wide variety of bridge and structural projects. You will be part of large multidisciplinary teams serving both public and private clients, including major large-scale Design and Build projects.

Here is what you will do:

  • Analysis and modeling: you will perform calculations for typical structural elements, applying load combinations according to each limit state, and performing basic checks. You will also model and analyze structures using specialized software, ensuring consistency between models and results.
  • Deliverables and quality: you will prepare calculation reports, bill of quantities, sketches for drawing production, ensuring clarity and organization. You will carry out self-checks and participate in quality reviews (peer reviews) to enhance technical consistency and reduce rework.
  • Design and coordination: you will contribute to conceptual studies and the evaluation of design alternatives (structural typologies, materials, and construction methods) based on technical and cost criteria, as well as participate in preliminary and detailed design stages. You will support coordination with geotechnics, hydraulics, alignment, utilities, and architecture, proactively identifying and resolving potential conflicts.
  • Standards and constructability: you will apply international standards (AASHTO, AREMA, British Standards, Australian codes). You will incorporate a design for constructability approach, considering construction stages, site access, and project constraints.
  • Collaboration and digital efficiency: you will participate in technical meetings to validate assumptions and understand constraints. You will contribute to digital efficiency through templates, parameterization, and task automation (spreadsheets and basic scripts).

What we offer

  • Opportunity to work on structural designs in internationally iconic transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Collaboration with a multicultural and multidisciplinary team, sharing global best practices.
  • Professional development in a technically excellent environment, with training and career growth opportunities.
  • Stable and competitive employment package, with flexible working arrangements and the possibility of remote work.
  • Access to advanced tools and technologies (BIM, automation, parametric design).
  • An inclusive and diverse workplace, committed to equal opportunities.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for

Master's degree in civil engineering from a recognized University.

Experience working on bridges and/or structures designs (+2 years).

Fluent in English (oral and written).

Experience with some of the main international regulations and standards (i.e AASTHO; AREMA, Australian Codes; British Standards, etc.).

Skilled in engineering calculation software for bridge and structures (preferable MIDAS Civil NX, but others as CSiBridge, SAP2000, etc. are well considered).

Previous experience working in the North America region (U.S.A./Canada), Australia or New Zealand will be considered favorably.
