Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Places Boston/New England’s architecture practice includes aviation, transit, research/science, higher education and federal/state/local government projects. It recently was recognized by the Boston Business Journal as second in 2025 revenue among Massachusetts firms. It is a dynamic, fast-paced design environment, client-focused and collaborative. AECOM is seeking a creative, experienced Designer or Architect III to help solve design and technical issues while leading task teams contributing to project delivery. Traditionally labelled “job captain” in the profession, a person in this role will be involved in project development and deliverables from conceptual studies through full design and construction administration, as well as guiding others to follow best practices in the same. As part of diverse teams, this role will help organize and execute business development efforts, meet client goals, and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards, in coordination with Project Managers, lead designers, Principals, BIM leaders, QA/QC reviewers and other practice leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Leads and organizes architectural drawing sets across SD, DD, CD, and CA phases, meeting client/design/firm goals and deadlines
Applies industry knowledge and a thorough understanding of concepts, principles and technical capabilities
Has a strong commitment to meeting responsibilities, plus a positive, helpful outlook and ideas to contribute to a team
Possesses strong skills acquired through advanced training, study and experience
Professionally licensed in architecture or actively pursuing licensure
Under the direction of the Supervising Architect / Designer Completes assigned work independently and receives/applies general guidance and direction on new projects, tasks and priorities
Analyzes issues and identifies solutions using existing techniques, and proposes approaches for novel issues
Coordinates the work with other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project.
Exercises independent judgement in determining how work is performed; review and approve conceptual designs as required.
Proactively identifies and advocates for improvements to existing processes and procedures
Exchanges information on sensitive matters and works to build consensus across teams and departments
Understands stakeholders by anticipating their needs and ensures work results will have positive impact
Adapts to new processes or changing assignments, and considers alternative approaches to complete work
- Provides guidance and training to junior team members, and proactively reports to project managers, principals, and lead designers.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Architecture plus four (4) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Registered Architecture license within 12 months
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Architecture
Experience in aviation, transportation, infrastructure, higher education, lab/science and/or Federal architectural projects and experience in coordination and package completion on complex architectural projects
NCARB Certification and LEED Accreditation
Proficiency in Revit, Enscape and other BIM tools, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and graphic communications
Ability to build strong working relationships with all
Strong communication and presentation skills; adaptable to various audiences
Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
