Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Assistant Project Manager – Technical Delivery for one of our offices in Sacramento, CA. This role will support the coordination and integration of consultant teams, technical disciplines, and project stakeholders across planning, engineering, environmental, procurement, and preconstruction phases of major civil infrastructure projects. The role will assist in advancing projects such as Merced to Madera (M2M), Locally Generated Alternative (LGA), Gilroy to Merced, Central Valley Stations, and other initiatives through technical delivery oversight, implementation support, and cross-functional coordination. Responsibilities include supporting project delivery strategies, facilitating collaboration across branches and external agencies, and helping ensure successful project progression from early planning through implementation.
- Support Technical Delivery leadership in the development and implementation of project delivery strategies for major civil infrastructure projects across the high-speed rail program, including planning, phasing, procurement support, and preconstruction coordination
- Assist in managing and coordinating consultant teams responsible for preliminary engineering, environmental documentation, technical studies, station development, and infrastructure delivery activities
- Support integration and coordination across engineering, environmental, right-of-way, construction, rail systems, operations, and program controls functions to ensure alignment of project objectives, schedules, delivery milestones, and implementation strategies
- Facilitate coordination between offices, branches, consultants, local agencies, railroad stakeholders, utility owners, and third-party stakeholders to support timely project development and decision-making
- Support development and maintenance of project delivery plans, technical risk registers, issue resolution logs, interface management processes, and project implementation strategies
- Assist in evaluating project delivery alternatives, procurement approaches, schedule constraints, and implementation strategies to support program objectives
- Review technical documents, engineering deliverables, project schedules, procurement packages, and consultant work products for consistency with requirements and project delivery objectives
- Support executive briefings, stakeholder coordination efforts, technical workshops, interagency coordination meetings, and project reporting activities associated with civil infrastructure and station delivery projects
- Coordinate with other Engineering Services sections, including Civil Infrastructure Engineering, Rail Systems Engineering, and Network Integration & Assurance, as well as the Planning & Sustainability and Environmental Services branches
- Coordinate with additional offices including Program & System Safety and Security, Rail Operations, Statewide Regional/Real Property, Construction, Project Controls, and Contracting
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
BA/BS + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Requirements:
- Professional Civil Engineer (PE) license in the State of California
- Experience supporting high-speed rail, passenger rail, transit, or other major linear infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with alternative delivery methods, including Progressive Design-Build and Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience supporting the planning, design, development, or delivery of major infrastructure or transportation projects of similar size, scope, and complexity
- Experience supporting multi-disciplinary infrastructure programs involving engineering, environmental, procurement, and construction coordination activities
- Experience working with public agencies, consultant teams, and complex stakeholder environments on transportation or rail infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate across multiple technical disciplines, and support resolution of complex project delivery challenges
- Strong organizational, communication, and technical coordination skills with the ability to support fast-paced program delivery objectives
- Experience with California environmental and regulatory processes associated with major infrastructure projects
- Experience supporting project delivery within large public-sector capital programs
