Job Description

We are expanding our Sweden team to deliver high-profile infrastructure projects, including rail and tunnel developments. Our office operates as a collaborative, international hub connected to AECOM’s European rail and tunnel experts, with English as the working language. We welcome applications from across Europe — Swedish language is not required for this role.

We seek a Hard Rock Tunnel Engineering Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design delivery for major infrastructure projects in Sweden. You will be the primary interface with the client, orchestrate design across disciplines, and drive quality, risk, and efficiency from tender through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as our design team’s representative and single point of contact to the client; plan, host, and document client and internal design meetings.
  • Own the Design Management Plan (scope, deliverables, milestones) and integrate design progress with planning, risk, and cost reporting.
  • Lead design reviews, technical workshops, and interface coordination to align disciplines and resolve issues early.
  • Translate overarching client requirements into clear actions; monitor implementation and compliance across the design.
  • Safeguard quality: coordinate cross‑discipline deliverables and perform QA prior to submission.
  • Manage change and risk proactively; capture, communicate, and mitigate design changes and design risks.
  • Drive value engineering and constructability; liaise with contractors to close design queries and support site activities.
  • Manage performance of internal teams and subconsultants, including resource planning and progress reporting.
  • Prepare and present concise progress updates, schedules, and risk dashboards to the client and project leadership.
  • Support client development, coach junior staff, and share best practices.
  • Travel to Swedish project locations and occasional trips to design offices abroad may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • University degree in Engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure design.
  • 3+ years as Design Manager/Design Coordinator or Technical Lead delivering multidisciplinary projects with a tunnel focus (tender design accepted).
  • Excellent English (working language).

Nice to Have

  • Hard rock tunnel experience; NATM knowledge is a plus.
  • Construction‑stage site follow‑up experience.
  • Preparation of tender and construction documents for build‑only contracts.
  • Detailed design delivery for contractors.
  • Preparation of tender documents for design‑build contracts.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed teams across countries.
