Job Description

Join AECOM as a visionary leader in our Environment & Energy (EE) Business and shape the future of sustainable future across the EURI region. As the Managing Director for EE, you will drive growth and innovation to address decarbonisation, energy security, and resilience challenges, delivering solutions that support a carbon- and nature-positive future.

You will champion a culture of high performance, innovation, and inclusion—fostering talent development, technical excellence, and strong client relationships. This role also involves aligning regional strategy with global priorities and driving sustainable, long-term growth.

Reporting to the CEO and a dotted line to the Executive VP, Global Business Line Chief Executive, Environment & Energy, you will orchestrate communication, set and implement business strategies, and ensure sustained and profitable growth aligned with the strategic plan.

About You:

You are a dynamic, strategic leader with a strong track record in the Environment & Energy sector. You bring deep market knowledge, commercial acumen, and experience in driving business growth and leading large, diverse teams.

You have proven expertise in business development, stakeholder engagement, and navigating complex regional markets, supported by a strong technical background in environmental or engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the CEO and collaborate with fellow RBLLs, Managing Director of Strategy and Growth, Global Technical Teams, and wider regional leadership.
  • Develop and implement a growth plan aligned to the both the regional and global EE business.
  • Ensure full accountability for the P&L performance of EE versus the financial plan and outlook 
  • Drive a culture where AECOM is recognised as a great place to work, by upholding AECOM’s values, championing equity, diversity, & inclusion, and promoting employee engagement and continuous development.
  • Initiate and lead recruitment of strategic and/or senior hires, with succession plans for critical roles within EE
  • Ensure successful management of projects/programs within EE from prepositioning and proposal development to completion, including periodic project reviews.
  • Implement change programs to increase efficiency, profitability, and quality of operations within the EE business.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative and digital solutions to enhance business performance and service delivery.
  • Lead by example by visibly driving SH&E culture, ensuring effective implementation of AECOM SH&E policies and procedures, and achieving the SH&E core value metrics for EE

Drives business line growth and expansion across diverse industries, markets, and client segments

  • Provides visionary leadership, managing strategy, performance, and team direction for the region’s business line.
  • Is responsible for establishing and executing strategies, objectives, and financial targets that align with both regional and global key performance indicators.
  • Leads by clearly communicating strategic goals and objectives, collaborating with regional priorities and global leadership teams.

Strategic Growth Leadership

  • Designs and implements long-term growth initiatives and market entry plans suited for the region.
  • Ensures regional approaches reinforce overall global business line objectives.

Client Engagement & Market Presence

  • Embeds Client Centricity; consistently demonstrate a determination to win with a client-first mindset by actively engaging with clients, anticipating their needs, and delivering value through every interaction.
  • Cultivates strong relationships with major clients and directs significant business pursuits.
  • Manages top-priority client accounts and serves as the primary driver for securing new opportunities.

Operational Excellence

  • Elevates quality; delivers excellence consistently, reducing rework and improving client satisfaction.
  • Champions digital tool integration and advanced workflows to boost operational efficiency.

Collaboration & culture

  • Operate as one EURI team, breaking silos between countries, sectors, BLs and Enterprise.
  • Demonstrates AECOM’s leadership values, focusing on talent development, engaging clients, and influencing the industry. Champions well-being & inclusion: creating an inclusive, healthy, and high-performing environment.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years’ senior operational leadership experience within a multinational, matrixed Environment or Energy consultancy
  • Proven P&L accountability with strong financial and budget management expertise
  • Demonstrated success in managing financial performance across engineering and consulting contracts
  • Strong track record of driving business growth through strategic business development
  • Proven success in securing and winning major bids and opportunities
  • Extensive experience delivering large-scale, complex infrastructure or energy projects
  • Established ability to lead senior leadership teams and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure, energy, and environmental markets, including key social, political, and economic drivers across Europe
  • Positive, growth-oriented leadership style with a strong focus on coaching and developing talent
  • Recognised industry thought leader, with active participation in conferences, seminars, and professional forums
  • Experience leading and implementing transformation and change programmes to enhance performance, profitability, and quality

Cross‑Sector Experience

  • Background and insights across Transportation, Water, Buildings & Places, bringing breadth and perspective.

Energy & Environment Leadership

  • Strong passion and deep knowledge of Energy and Environment, including the energy transition across wind, solar and national grid infrastructure.

Complex, Multi‑Disciplinary Management

  • Proven ability to lead diverse technical disciplines spanning Ecology, Climate, Engineering, Nuclear and T&D.

Market & Industry Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of the Energy and Environment markets, including key players, competitors, partners and contractors.

Commercial Insight

  • Well‑developed commercial understanding of regional market dynamics and growth opportunities

Continental Europe Perspective

  • Clear knowledge of Continental Europe and its future potential, ensuring the business remains competitive and relevant

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Membership of a recognized professional body relative to our core markets.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree, with 15+ years of experience, including a minimum of 6 years in leadership roles.
