Job Description

Be part of a high-performing team delivering impactful water, wastewater, hydro and mining infrastructure projects across Western Canada. This is a great opportunity to grow your technical depth while contributing to projects that directly support community resilience and clean energy infrastructure. You’ll work on meaningful, community-focused infrastructure while advancing your High Voltage Power electrical team expertise in a supportive, growth-oriented environment. With exposure to complex projects and the opportunity to assume greater design ownership, this role offers a strong career development path in the High Voltage Power team within the Water division.

 

We are looking for a talented engineer with a power distribution, substation, protection and controls background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base. The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience in electrical engineering design and technology principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully in a team environment and to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. She/he will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and will display drive, energy, and enthusiasm for getting things done, with excellent attention to detail.

 

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Support and execute portions of larger engineering assignments, including data collection, analysis, calculations, and routine testing.
  • Deliver quality work on schedule and within budget with minimal supervision.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and designers within the High Voltage Power team.
  • Lead electrical tasks for infrastructure projects, preparing specifications, studies, and reports for greenfield and brownfield power distribution (from 5kV up to 230 kV), protection and control design, grounding, standby power, and low-voltage distribution systems.
  • Independently produce a full range of electrical design documents (Single Line Diagram, AC and DC schematics, Site Physical Layouts, Ground Grid Layout, Panel Layout, Cable Schedules, Bill of Materials, and more).
  • Ensure all deliverables meet AECOM and client standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Leads, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Supporting projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning.
  • Occasional travel to client and/or project sites when required.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • 6+ years related industry and engineering design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical and power environment - power generation, transmission, distribution or industrial power system design.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Canada.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiar with the CEC, CSA, IEEE, and NFPA standards.
  • 8+ years related industry and engineering design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical projects (with emphasis on HV related design).
  • Proven track record in design and production of design documents such as single line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, substation physical layout, ground grid, cable trench and conduit layout, cable & tray calculations, equipment specifications, electrical studies and reports.
  • Perform electrical system studies and calculations (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).
  • Experience with grounding study using CDEGS software is a strong asset.
  • Experience with utility design practices (BC Hydro, ENMAX, SaskPower, Manitoba Hydro, etc.) is a strong asset.
  • Experience with developing protection relay setting is a strong asset.
  • Experience with substation automation (IEC 61850) would be a desirable asset.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills; proven interpersonal skills, self-motivated, results oriented, ability to work independently and be flexible to perform work under tight schedules in a fast-paced integrated multi-disciplinary team environment.
