Job Description

The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team provides a range of services from the initial concept through Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems and Interconnectors including overseas links.

In this role, you will be a key member of our Transmission & Distribution team dedicated to leading and engaging with our clients to deliver technically challenging multi-disciplinary projects.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Lead cables design technical discussions with the client and internal multi-disciplinary teams to establish scopes, define interfacing and ensure delivery.

  • Lead the technical delivery with engineering teams by agreeing approach, supporting scope understanding, monitoring progress and quality checking of deliverables prior to issue to client.

  • Ensure the delivery of full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies and concept design through to detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.

  • Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.

  • Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams to ensure fully integrated solutions.

  • Take ownership of detailed engineering documentation and oversee project execution, providing technical guidance to the team.

  • Ensure design submissions comply with codes, standards, and quality requirements

  • Support the interface activity with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs, and other international standards.

  • Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, HAZID/HAZOPs, and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Demonstrate commercial awareness to carry out proposal development, monitor/manage project costs and enable opportunity identification.

  • Build client relationships, understanding client requirements and perspectives, building trust and adopting a client orientated project delivery mindset.

  • Mentor and develop more junior staff to build team capability and capacity over the medium and long term.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Degree qualified in electrical or power systems engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects. FEED experience is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience on working in a senior position within complex, multi-discipline projects and meeting delivery requirements for UK & Ireland clients
  • Working experience with the National Grid projects is advantageous
  • Proven client relationship management and business development skills
  • Chartership & Lead CDAE/CDAE certifications are advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent English and Spanish (spoken and written).
