Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Hydraulics Engineer to support transportation infrastructure projects in Raleigh, NC. This role involves assisting with highway construction engineering and inspection efforts, coordinating drainage and hydrology design, supporting hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and ensuring project compliance with applicable standards and specifications while contributing to impactful infrastructure improvements across the region.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serves as senior technical resource and technical advisor for engineering teams on hydraulics and drainage projects
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design efforts within the hydraulics discipline area of expertise
- Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by team members
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables and provides hydraulic engineering perspective
- Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for hydraulics-related project components
- Applies expertise throughout all steps of completing the hydraulics discipline component of the PS&E package
- Performs quality control review of hydraulic design calculations, drawings, and modeling outputs
- Prepares technical specification sections related to drainage systems, hydraulic structures, and stormwater management
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet project requirements and deliverable timelines
- Conducts field investigations and site assessments to evaluate existing drainage conditions and hydraulic constraints
- Prepares technical reports and documentation summarizing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, findings, and recommendations
- Coordinates with regulatory agencies and stakeholders regarding drainage design, permitting, and compliance with environmental standards
- Mentors and provides technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff on hydraulic engineering principles and best practices
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education
- U.S. Citizenship is required, due to the nature of the work
- PE License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in HEC-RAS, Bentley Open Roads, and HY-8
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Familiar with NCDOT Hydraulic Deliverables
