Job Description

AECOM is looking to recruit a Candidate Engineer - Geotechnical

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Eagerness to learn and grow within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a wide range of ground engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to assist with site investigations, including organising fieldwork, logging soils and rocks, supervising contractors, and compiling factual information for reporting.
  • Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to apply fundamental soil and rock mechanics principles to real‑world design problems under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Interest in developing technical skills, including geotechnical design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and earthworks, with training and mentorship provided.
  • Enthusiasm for producing clear, well‑structured technical documents, such as desk studies, factual reports, field logs, and preliminary design notes.
  • Willingness to learn industry‑standard software, such as geotechnical modelling tools, slope stability programs, and CAD platforms.
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to engage with colleagues, ask questions, and present your work effectively.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving, taking initiative and showing curiosity when exploring new geotechnical challenges.
  • Commitment to professional development, including working towards professional registration over time.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 0-4 years’ experience in geotechnical investigation and design work post undergraduate degree
  • BSc degree in Geotechnical engineering or related (Hons would be advantageous)
  • Excellent knowledge of development and implementation of geotechnical investigations.
  • Registration with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer
