At AECOM, we are currently recruiting for a Works Inspector to join our Dublin office.

The Works Inspector is responsible for overseeing the safety, quality, construction, testing, and commissioning of specific projects. The role involves engaging with stakeholders, managing the handover process, ensuring project completion, and overseeing the rectification of any defects.

The Works Inspector will also liaise with relevant operational departments to ensure that contractors carry out their work without disrupting the daily operations of passengers, staff, or other stakeholders. Additionally, the inspector will monitor and document site progress and provide regular reports on daily activities to the Project Manager.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out site activities in accordance with delegated authority, ensuring that materials, equipment, and construction or installation works follow the specified instructions.

  • Monitor the utilization and maintenance of construction equipment to ensure it is used efficiently and safely.

  • Coordinate direct labour activities with subcontractor works to maintain smooth and efficient site operations.

  • Track actual site progress and performance against the approved project schedule.

  • Inspect works to confirm proper preparation, oversee construction or installation processes, manage interface coordination, and attend asset or system commissioning where required.

  • Verify compliance with the Quality Control Plan and ensure that all relevant documentation is obtained and maintained.

  • Ensure the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) is correctly implemented throughout the project.

  • Perform construction quality assurance activities (surveillance and monitoring) on design-and-build projects to ensure the work meets required standards and specifications.

  • Carry out construction quality control inspections (including planned Hold and Witness points) on traditional projects to confirm that work quality meets project requirements.

  • Issue relevant quality documentation, including records of inspections and non-conformance reports where necessary.

  • Review certifications, including those related to material mixes, and oversee sampling operations when required, including assessment of laboratory test results.

  • Confirm that special processes are carried out correctly and that personnel involved hold the necessary qualifications.

  • Approve the layout and setup of required temporary construction facilities on site.

  • Monitor the use of calibrated measuring and testing equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with project standards.

  • Ensure the proper collection, verification, and management of documentation related to tests, inspections, and quality controls, and witness these activities when required.

  • Maintain site cleanliness and ensure housekeeping standards are consistently met.

  • Ensure that rigging activities on site comply with safety requirements and site-specific procedures.

  • Review project schedules and work plans related to site activities.

  • Identify critical construction items that may impact the project schedule and take appropriate action where necessary.

  • Monitor, where required, the contractor’s compliance with security procedures, including escort passes and vehicle permits.

  • Carry out any additional roles or responsibilities assigned under the Airport Directions.
