Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Networks Intern to be based in Hunt Valley, MD.

As a Networks Intern, you will support AECOM’s Technology Solutions Networks Team by assisting with a variety of networking-related tasks within the Technology Solutions Group. Technologies that may be part of the job include local area networks, passive optical LAN, cyber security, Wi-Fi, distributed antenna systems, and server and network administration. As a technician, you will work under the direction of project managers and/or consultants in supporting the review, design, implementation, and configuration of technology systems.

Responsibilities may include installing equipment and cabling at client facilities, phone and remote client support, testing network equipment in a lab environment, burn-in of networking gear, formal/on-the-job training, receiving and organizing shipments/equipment in the Hunt Valley, MD office. Responsibilities may also include web site design, experimentation with new technologies, and schedule coordination. The candidate must be highly detail-oriented, organized, and possess analytic and problem-solving abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills are a must. Travel to client locations (mostly within the local area) may be needed occasionally.

This is a part-time or full-time intern position. Hours are flexible to student availability. This is a position working primarily from the Hunt Valley, MD office, and local client locations within the DMV area.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with senior team members to troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues.
  • Responsible for the physical installation of network components.
  • Receive and ship materials, verifying packing lists, and stocking storage shelves.
  • Maintain internal and customer-facing web sites.
  • Configure and test network equipment under the direction of network engineers and consultants.
  • Regularly report to the Hunt Valley, MD office.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in a technology-related or related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate hands-on or academic experience in technology-related field of study.
  • Ability to lift equipment and install racks as well as climb a ladder.
  • Prior working experience in a related field is a plus but not required.
