Job Description
AECOM has a position open for a detail‑oriented, mid‑level Industrial Construction Estimator with strong experience across civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines. This role supports all classes of estimates from preliminary to detailed including budgeting, cost modeling, proposal development, and engineer estimates for industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate can interpret technical design documents, collaborate with project teams, communicate effectively, and produce accurate cost estimates within tight deadlines. The position available is for an Estimator V to join our growing Energy Business Line supporting large projects as part of the project support services team. The projects include power plants, power distribution, grid modernization, oil and gas, chemicals, water, wastewater, remediation, emerging markets in nuclear and carbon capture, microgrids, solar and battery storage, and other energy projects. AECOM is pursuing projects in the industrial, municipal, defense, and commercial market segments. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
The responsibilities for the position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Develop detailed cost estimates for civil, structural, and mechanical project components, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Developing project indirect costs like general conditions, management staff, temporary facilities, construction equipment, markups, contingency, etc.
- Analyze drawings, technical specifications, site data, and project requirements to determine constructability and cost impacts.
- Measures and recognizes estimating processes/project actions that may impact the project.
- Support project teams in developing budgets, value‑engineering options, and alternative construction approaches.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs using industry standard tools and software.
- Prepares crew build-ups and production rate determinations.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes.
- Possesses a working knowledge of planning and scheduling.
- Develops Work Breakdown Structures.
- Managing the preparation of an estimate and leading estimate reviews.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure estimate accuracy and alignment with execution plans.
- Initiates the preparation of an Estimate Plan, Basis of Estimate, and qualifications (approach, techniques, level of effort, cost, schedule)
- Prepares bid tabulations responding to the customer/Request for Proposal requirements.
- Collects, analyzes and archives project data. Develops historical documentation.
- Develops current project estimate comparisons with previous performance and market benchmark data.
- Supervises junior staff through task development, establishing and maintaining goals and expectations, and documenting performance related issues and achievements.
- This is a supervisory/technical specialist position responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the work of subordinates under the direction of a manager or functions as a technical expert.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA BS degree in engineering or construction from ABET accredited college or university +8 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and / or education.
- Estimating experience is required
- Due to the nature of work US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7–10 years of estimating experience in industrial, heavy civil, or large‑scale commercial construction.
- 8 years of relevant experience in estimating in the engineering or construction industry.
- Experience estimating civil (earthwork, foundations, utilities), structural (steel, concrete), and mechanical (process piping, equipment installation) scopes.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble WinEstimator, ACCE, Bluebeam, HeavyBid, Sage Estimating, On‑Screen Takeoff, or similar).
- Experience in industrial sectors such as manufacturing, energy, mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of construction means and methods, cost drivers, and labor productivity.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, structural plans, and specifications.
- Familiarity with project controls, scheduling, and work breakdown structures.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
