AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is currently recruiting for a Underground Structures and Tunnelling Senior Engineer to join our busy and expanding experienced team. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of Projects, either as standalone commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. You may have the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic Transportation and Water projects, being part of a diverse and multicultural team. It can be a great opportunity for a junior profile that wants to boost his/her professional technical career on the ground engineering and digital space.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer in tunneling projects

• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on rock data

• Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position in relation to tunneling projects

• Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments in relation to tunneling projects

• Provides guidance to entry level engineers in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on rock mechanics and tunneling

• Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests for tunneling projects

• Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works with emphasis on tunneling projects

• Works as part of a ground and tunnelling engineering team with other engineers at the same functional level that can be from different EC offices (Poland, Spain, India, etc).

• Identifies discrepancies in results in calculations and reports on tunneling projects

• Prepare and manage technical specification sections related to designs, ensuring they meet project requirements with emphasis on tunnelling projects

• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision with emphasis on tunneling projects

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor degree in civil engineering with emphasis in geotechnical or structural engineering.

• At least 6 years of professional experience working on ground and tunneling engineering designs.

• Proficiency in the use of specific structural engineering software SAP2000, STAAD Pro, MIDAS, etc. Other structural design software experience will be considered favorably.

• Experience in the design of secondary lining, C&C tunnels, shafts and retaining systems such as secant pile walls, sheet piles, etc.

• Proven commitment with Quality Control Policy and Quality Management System.

• Fluent in English (oral and written).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree with emphasis in geotechnical or structural engineering.

• At least 7 years of professional experience working on ground and tunneling engineering designs and collaborating with international and multi-cultural teams for Transportation and Water Projects.

• Experience with international regulations and standards with emphasis on tunnel design.

• The candidate should be familiar with retaining and ground improvement systems. Experience in tunnelling construction methods will be considered favorably.

• Experience working in the North America region / Australia will be considered favorably.

• Background in underground works associated with hydroelectric projects would be considered as positive.

• US and/or Australia Professional Engineer license will be considered favorably

• Proficiency in the use of specific ground engineering and tunnelling software as Geoestudio / Plaxis (2D/3D) / Rocscience.

• Experience working with Common Data Environment platforms (e.g., BIM 360, ACC).
