Job Description
AECOM is seeking a talented Electrical engineering IV focused on Telecommunications senior level to join our office in Bogota, Colombia. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in the tech sector and telecommunications industry, with a deep understanding of the demands for scale, speed, and consistency in data networks operations. These positions focus on project engineering management.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Design Telecommunications Systems for Data Networks: Develop and implement Telecommunications system designs tailored to network operations, including Structured Cabling, Networking, Virtualization, Wireless Network, IP Telephony, Grounding and Bonding for Telecommunications. Ensure designs prioritize reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
Telecommunications Equipment Selection: Identify and specify telecommunications equipment such as Switches, Servers, Wireless Devices and all the Passive Infrastructure. Ensure equipment meets operational requirements and adheres to safety standards.
Redundancy and Fault Tolerance: Design systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features, including dual power feeds for actives equipment, redundancy for optical and copper communications, to guarantee continuous operation.
Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural as well as other disciplines that are part of the projects, to integrate telecommunications systems.
Ensure Compliance with Industry Standards: Adhere to industry-specific standards, such as those from Uptime Institute, ANSI/TIA, BICSI, IEEE, IEC, and NEC, ensuring all designs meet regulatory and operational guidelines.
Prepare Design Documentation and Specifications: Create comprehensive technical drawings, specifications, and documentation. Effectively communicate design plans with clients, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Stay Informed on Telecommunications trends: Keep updated on advancements, best practices, and emerging technologies in telecommunications systems, standards, and manufacturers advances.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications engineering or related discipline.
6+ years of professional experience in Telecommunications engineering, with a strong focus on data networks design and implementations.
Proficient in designing telecommunications systems, including Structured Cabling, Optical Networks, Wireless Networks, Virtualization, IP Telephony and Networking.
Demonstrated expertise in calculations, equipment selection, data networks design, and redundancy planning. Strong understanding of telecommunications and building codes, including ANSI/TIA, IEEE, IEC, BICSI standards, and local regulations.
Hands-on experience with telecommunications design software, simulation tools, Wi-Fi coverage simulator.
Experience performing and reviewing drawings and projects reports.
Proven ability to review and respond to contractor submittals, including shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
English Level: B2.
Preferred Requirements
Master’s degree or advanced coursework in telecommunications, data networks design is strongly preferred.
Experience with Revit to create 3D BIM models of telecommunications systems, adhering to all Levels of Development (LOD).
Professional certifications including ITIl Foundation, CISCO CCNA, are highly valued. Additional manufacturers certifications like Siemon, Legrand, Panduit, Commscope, etc.
