The below responsibilities provide a broad overview of the Digital & Engineering Technology Intern’s role within the practice. As this is a developmental role, there may be modifications to these responsibilities to align with active project needs, the intern’s evolving skillset, and strategic digital initiatives.
Digital Operations & Support. Assist in the development and maintenance of digital tools, scripts, and automations that streamline engineering and project delivery workflows (e.g., Excel, Power Automate, Python, Revit/Dynamo).
Support data preparation and analysis for internal dashboards, workload trackers, and portfolio reports using Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, SharePoint, Power BI). Organize and curate digital resources, templates, and standards on SharePoint and related collaboration platforms to ensure ease of access for project teams. Perform supportive tasks related to digital project delivery, model coordination, and technology rollouts as required.
Innovation & Process Optimization. Participate in pilot projects that apply AI and automation to tasks such as document review, model coordination support, or knowledge management. Identify opportunities to reduce repetitive manual tasks through basic scripting or software automation. Test and refine existing digital solutions to ensure they are reliable, user-friendly, and ready for staff adoption.
Training & Knowledge Sharing. Prepare clear how‑to guides, quick-reference materials, and short training content to facilitate the adoption of new tools and workflows. Assist in documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs) for digital workflows. Support the Digital Design and Technology Manager in facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions or workshops.
Learning & Professional Growth. Gain hands‑on experience applying digital tools and automation to real A/E projects in a professional environment. Develop proficiency in Microsoft 365, BIM, and AI tools used to support project teams and leadership. Engage in close mentorship with the Digital Design and Technology Manager, gaining insight into digital strategy, technology selection, and change management.
