Job Description
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Associate Director (Mechanical) to help lead and grow the Building Services team in Sydney.
This role presents a unique opportunity to be recognised as a Director in our national Building Engineering team, delivering some iconic projects across ANZ and across a variety of market sectors, while still having a focus on growing and shaping the local team in Sydney.
How you’ll make a difference:
- Lead the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects across sectors such as health, defence, transport, commercial, aviation, data-centre or other major building sectors around NSW/ACT.
- Lead mechanical and multidiscipline building services design and end-to-end project delivery, including oversight of technical quality, coordination and design management across other disciplines such as electrical, fire protection and hydraulics.
- Actively build and maintain strong client relationships to support business development and further secure a robust pipeline of future work.
- Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams, applying deep technical expertise to drive quality outcomes through rigorous review of design calculations, specifications, models and drawings, ensuring best-practice documentation and coordinated project outputs.
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers, contributing to their technical development and supporting high-quality design documentation and project delivery.
- Leverage an established local network to strengthen AECOM’s presence in NSW, with a clear expectation to grow and develop the Sydney building services team as part of the national Building Engineering team.
Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive:
- Ideally, 15+ years’ experience in building services consultancy or contracting design with a strong mechanical engineering background. Furthermore, Chartered status (CPEng) essential, other registrations highly regarded
- Demonstrated leadership in technical design and multi-disciplinary project delivery
- Deep knowledge of building services systems, standards and best-practice design, with the ability to guide clients, mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction across complex project environments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, lead multidiscipline bids for building engineering projects, and collaborate effectively with senior leaders to support business development and operational performance.
- Proven track record of enhancing long-term client relationships and working across key sectors such as data centres, commercial, aviation, defence or broader building markets.
- Strong communicator and leader with a passion for growing teams, coaching emerging engineers and driving quality, innovation and continuous improvement within the building services team.
- An understanding of the Sydney building engineering market and its dynamics.
