Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Fire Protection Engineer for employment in the Roanoke, Virginia office. AECOM is pleased to include you in a unique development opportunity, the Graduate Development Program (GDP). This program is designed to support your assimilation into the organization and assist with creating a foundation of knowledge for a successful career at AECOM. Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer, the successful candidate will:
- Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
- Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
- Assist with the design of fire protection systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
- Identify risks and design safeguards that aid in preventing, controlling, and mitigating the effects of fires.
- Assist architects, building owners and developers in evaluating buildings' life safety and property protection goals.
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
- Prepare basic deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, design drawings, specifications, cost estimates related to fire protection engineering.
- Review applicable codes and criteria and examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects.
- Assist lead engineer in project design or site survey tasks as required.
- Provide egress and fire modeling assistance using FDS or other software.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Fire Safety engineering or other related field required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software.
- Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, Revit, HCS, AutoCAD, Hydraulic models).
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred.
- AutoCad or Revit certification preferred.
